A Happy New Year for Nessie
After our Team Leader, Di, received some vague reports on New Year’s Eve about a turtle in Beachmere Lagoon, Rebecca (MOP) got eyes on her. Volunteers sprung into action and Glenda found this juvenile sea turtle grazing in the shallows

We named her Nessie
Glenda was able to walk right up to her, so off they we went (Nessie on Glenda’s lap) to get more suitable restraint for the journey to Australia Zoo.
Prognosis is positive
Australia Zoo reports Nessie is in good condition and more than likely able to be released before the end of the week!

Hazards abound
The lagoon is no place for a marine turtle. Locals believe she’s been there for 12 months.
Council of Moreton Bay will hopefully assess the storm water pipes and make sure no more marine creatures can accidentally get in.
Let’s hope this was Nessie’s own misadventure and not some poor human behaviour.
